Philip D. Buchanan, Ph.D., non-Executive Chairman of the Board
Dr. Buchanan was the first investor in Capital Analytics and has been an enthusiastic champion of the innovative methodologies — inspired by medical research — that the company has brought to market to measure the value of human capital. As Director of GeneCare Medical Genetics Center, which he founded in 1983, he also brings to the company seasoned executive experience managing a research organization. Dr. Buchanan earned his Ph.D. in Human Genetics from North Carolina State University with post-doctoral studies completed at the University of Michigan, Harvard University and the University of Oregon. He is also certified by the American Board of Medical Genetics as a medical geneticist and clinical cytogeneticist.
Sandy Costa, Chairman of the Advisory Board
Mr. Costa was a senior executive and Board Member of Glaxo, and President/COO of Quintiles during the period when their revenues climbed from $80 million to $1.6 billion. He has a BS in pharmacy and his Juris Doctor degrees from St. John’s University. Mr. Costa sits on several public, private and non-profit Boards. In 1998, he was the recipient of the St. John’s University Alumni Outstanding Achievement Medal.
Stephen J. Bistritz, Ph.D.
Dr. Bistritz has more than three decades of high-technology sales, sales management and training management experience dealing with companies ranging from start-ups to global leaders. He is a published author and lecturer in the field of sales, sales management and selling at the executive level. Dr. Bistritz spent 27 years at IBM where he managed and led the instructional design, development and implementation of numerous national training programs for sales, marketing and technical support personnel. He received a BS in Electrical Engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, and a Master of Management Science from Stevens Institute of Technology. In 1995, he received a Doctorate in Human Resource Development from Vanderbilt University.
Karen Jackson
Ms. Jackson currently runs a consulting practice in Atlanta. Formerly, she was a Director with Computer Science Corporation’s (CSC) Business Development Group in Falls Church, Virginia. In this role, she was responsible for global improvement of sales delivery processes. Throughout her 14-year career with the company, she was directly involved in building client relationships at the executive level, complex strategic planning and creating partnerships to facilitate long-term business success. As an example, Ms. Jackson played an integral role in winning a $5 billion dollar opportunity for the company — an accomplishment that has yet to be duplicated.
Jay Klompmaker, Ph.D.
Dr. Klompmaker is Professor Emeritus of Business Administration at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Kenan-Flagler Business School and owner and founder of The Klompmaker Consulting Group. In addition to teaching marketing, Dr. Klompmaker has served as director of the Young Executives Institute and the Executive Program (now the Advanced Management Program) and as Associate Dean for Development and Corporate Relations in his twenty-nine plus years at the school. He has won teaching awards in two of the school's degree programs and its executive programs. Dr. Klompmaker also received the highest rating in Business Week's nationwide survey of top executive education program faculty during his career.
Joan B. Troy Ontjes, Ph.D.
Dr. Ontjes is one of the early financial investors in Capital Analytics. She has also contributed to the intellectual capital of the company, leveraging her research in learning impact assessment and knowledge of applied statistics to aid in the development of the processes and software. Dr. Ontjes received her Ph.D. in Research Design and Statistics from Duke University, where she also served for seven years as a Visiting Professor and Mathematics Instructor. She holds a MAT in Mathematics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and two Bachelor degrees, in Mathematics and Music, from Salem College.
David Vance, Ph.D.
David Vance is the former President of Caterpillar University, which he founded in 2001. Until his retirement in January 2007, he was responsible for ensuring that the right education, training and leadership were provided to achieve corporate goals and efficiently meet the learning needs of Caterpillar and dealer employees. Dr. Vance has since founded Manage Learning LLC, which consults with organizations on learning and performance issues with a particular focus on launching corporate universities and designing effective strategies for managing the learning function including alignment, governance, organization and measurement. He was named 2006 CLO of the Year by CLO Magazine and 2004 Corporate University Leader of the Year by the International Quality and Productivity Council in their annual CUBIC (Corporate University Best in Class) Awards. Dr. Vance received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science from M.I.T. in 1974, a Master of Science Degree in Business Administration from Indiana University (South Bend) in 1983, and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Notre Dame in 1988.
Karie Willyerd, Ph.D.
Karie Willyerd is former CLO of Sun Microsystems where she helped transform the company into a leading learning organization. Her achievements have been recognized numerous times, including the 2009 ASTD BEST Award, which ranked Sun’s learning department as number 1 in the world. Under her direction, Sun also was named by Training Magazine as one of 2008’s Top 125 Training Organizations, and received CLO Magazine’s 2008 Gold Learning Team Award. Dr. Willyerd is now a Founding Partner of Future Workplace, an organization dedicated to helping prepare companies for the 2020 workplace. She has recently co-authored the book, The 2020 Workplace: How Innovative Companies Attract, Develop & Keep Tomorrow’s Employees Today (Harper Business, May 2010). Willyerd holds a bachelor’s from Texas Christian University, master’s degree in instructional and performance technology from Boise State University and a doctorate in management from Case Western Reserve University.
Hugh Wrigley
Mr. Wrigley is a Managing Partner in Global Endowment Fund. Prior to this, he was with the Duke University Management Company (DUMAC) where he oversaw DUMAC's Private Investments activities, which included private capital, real estate and natural resources. Mr. Wrigley has held executive positions in the Mergers and Strategic Advisory Group of Goldman, Sachs & Co., and Linklaters in New York and London. He began his career at Allens Arthur Robinson in Melbourne, Australia, as an associate in the Securities, Mergers and Acquisitions Group. He has a LLB (Honors), B.Comm., from the University of Melbourne.
